ok first of all sorry for goin over really old ground and being very slow... now

I'm on Vist 64bit Home Premium

I've downloaded virtualBox. DONE

I did download Virtual Pc but this is not XP (Hope that is correct) BUT! its not needed really for vista? Following this thread as best I can now you mention vmware....

Anyway I run VirtualBox but cant get USB to be recognized. I moved files to this stick drive... "i8910 flash folder drivers" "msxml" and "Symbian ROM"

At this moment I'd pay someone to do it for me. So again sorry, jus got phone and new to this, very new.

all that story with virtaul box, virtual pc, xp mode ... etc is just useless :|

just install virtual box
create a virtual machine
boot from an windows CD or a mounted image
install windows xp
and the rest is simple, just think you are running Windows XP :-??

That usually means you've tried to flash using a usb 1.0 port, not usb 2.0.

Re-flash from a usb 2.0 port and it'll be fine.

Have you remembered to add usb filters in VirtualBox (settings>usb>add filter)?

Hi guys. First off, thanks so much to everyone who's submitted information on this topic, you've made it a great read and very informative. I've just successfully flashed and updated my phone for the fist time, via windows 7, using a microsoft supplied xp emulator. Here' my 2 cents on the windows 7 to xp emulator issues. Sorry if this is common knowledge, however i don't think i read it anywhere else thus far, but excuse me if i'm mistaken. Anyhoo, this worked for me:

Go to this website: Download Windows XP Mode

follow the steps as advised. If it works for your system, install as required. Sorry, i can't help if it won't run on your system.

Once you have windows xp mode running in the windows virtual PC mode, you need to copy all the required files (including the rom flashing program file) for flashing and updating the firmware onto the desktop of the XP mode screen.

Copy all the required setup files (from the tute site - How to flash and debrand your Samsung i8910 HD - Samsung i8910 Omnia HD Debrand Tutorial. | Samsung i8910 HD Users - 100% i8910 Omnia HD ) to the xp mode desktop somwhere; ie
Microsoft Msxml.msi
I8910 Flashing drivers (Install all of these)
Symbian ROM flashing tool 1.50
Get the latest firmware from this thread in our forum:

run flashing tool.
make sure to enable USB connection from the top little menu which is at the top of the xp emulator window. Remember to uncheck any tick boxes for the boot options, ie the download option and modem option.

Good luck.
Remember, within the rom flashing program, when assigning the location of the firmware files, be careful to select them from the xp emulator desktop location which you would have copied the files to. I think the flashing tool has problems trying running it from a windows 7 folder.

Hope this helps
Peteski.
P.s Finally running italian firmware xxii1, after generic ausi version. If anyone's got advice for a better version, i'm open to suggestions. Cheers.

i downloaded virtual box in vista..

I downloaded a torrent of xp because some users said this is the best way to get around step 2 and 3. But the torrent i downloaded is not a .cab file, it is a iso image file..

How do i load this onto virtual box and then finally be able to flash on my vista laptop?? :/
