Default Unable to update firmware

I'm stuck on Italian II2 and want to update to the latest official firmware. I've been able to update my firmware twice before but can't seem to get it working anymore

I'm on 64-bit Windows 7. I've tried Google and these forums but nothing seems to work. Hard reset, installing 64-bit driver, different versions of PC Studio, opening FSUpdated.exe directly, etc. and nothing works.

Usually it gets stuck at "Reading software version information from your phone." If it manages to get through that, after clicking "Yes" to "have you backed up your data?", it says "while downloading files an error occurred!"

I then tried on a 32-bit WinXP SP3 and to my surprise it still wouldn't work. The same things happen as described above. This is at my parents' house in another city so I wont have access to this computer after Sunday.

Is there any way I can update to the latest official firmware without having to use PC Studio?

If not, do you have any suggestions as to what I can do? Am I missing something? There's nothing wrong with II2, but I'd like to try the newer versions.

I tried to update to the latest italian a couple of weeks ago and couldnt get a connection, iassumed the update servers were down as i had never had any troubles before that, i had done a full back up though so one way or another i was determined to have a new firmware.

I ended up installing hyperx and was i glad i did, my first unofficial fw and the best so far, from what i have heard the latest italian leaves you very little c drive after the install.

Just double check you have installed all the drivers etc. if you are tempted to use a hyper x try this site:

I've considered using unofficial firmware and I'm definitely considering it again after this dilemma. I've yet to find disadvantages to using unofficial firmware but there must be something.

Is there anything in the official firmware that isn't in hyperx? Are there any disadvantages with hyperx compared to the official firmware?

More importantly are there any irreversible changes if I install hyperx?

You can go back and forth with firmware as long as you dont tick the boot option all should mostly be safe. and the advantages are you get a better firmware with the cooked ones
As for the PC studio check this out Samsung Mobile : Community

i would say go with HyperX aswell, his firmware in a nutshell is based off other existing offical firmwares, taking the best of each firmware, aswell as a few mods of his own. very stable, and surprising less buggy than some of the offical releases. it only takes a few minutes to install a new firmware, so if you dont like it, youre no worse off than where you are now. just a thought, but remember to backup your settings either way, its a pain to set them all again.

PC Studio is terrible. I've only ever installed it to update firmware, after which I uninstall it right away. Now it seems like it can't even do that.

I'll look into hyperx. And I completely agree, it's probably better, but I'd like to know the disadvantages (not that it necessarily has any). Do you have any complaints about hyperx that weren't in the official firmware?

On another note, why is it that my phone backup (automatic backup in office -> file manager -> backup) doesn't back up my messages? When I restore, only my contacts and settings are restored properly. PC studio backup seems to restore messages properly.
