I have the new italian firmware as well and havent really noticed much of a difference re. Battery life. It's no better either though which is a bit of a disappointment.

Rapid battery drains occur normally due to missing out post-flashing hard reset.
Make sure you perform a hard reset right after you flash your phone.

Default battery drain after firmware update

thanks

i will try the hard reset

my bug is this is the 4th or 5th time that i do firmware changes, went from orange uk, to basic italian via rom flash then upgrade italian via pc suite then the new firmware via rom flash/

yet this is the only time the i do notice the battery drain

further when i do a backup/restore with pc suite, i notice that not everything comes back the way it was, namely some programs do not get reinstalled, opera, google maps, and a few others , how come the back up is not full and total,

anyone with an answer
thanks

You are suppose to do a hard reset before and just after flashing your phone. Otherwise you will see bugs and battery drains often.

Regarding backup/restore I don't think it will restore your installed programs. You can backup settings but even that is not recommended because that could mess up with the phone. So, you should only backup sms, contacts and calendar etc.

For quick install of your favorite apps every time you flash your phone, there is a utility called AutoInstaller by ThinkChange. Google it or look up in the forum. I found it very handy as you can install hundred of apps at once with just one click.
