I've transferred some mp3 podcasts to my i8910 but they don't show in the music player. There is nothing special about the files, they're just regular mp3's stored in the same directory as all my other mp3's and they're tagged with 'speech' in the genre field so they can easily be distinguished from music mp3's in the music player. But there is no 'speech' genre listed in the music player and nothing listed in the 'unknown' genre. I've refreshed the music player several times and looked everywhere but they're still missing from the music player.
I've tried using the built in podcast application but it's useless. The only way I can access the podcasts is through the file manager. That's just crazy, there's got to be an easier way surely? Any ideas? Why oh why did Samsung make such a killer multimedia phone and equip it with such an awful OS, firmware and applications meh - I'm really not an Apple fan but it's at times like these that I envy iphone users

Yeah, I am frustrated about this too....It's because the music player does not recognise the Genre "Podcast" in the ID3 tag....why they built a Player which limited itself to a subset of Genres I do not know. Sadly, it's the kind of shortsightedness I've some to expect from Samsung now....

I've found a work-around for this.
Put all your podcasts in a sub folder within your music folder but don't call it 'podcast' or 'speech', I've named mine 'Pcast'. Then tag all the podcasts with a custom genre using an mp3 tag editor. So for instance I have used the genre 'Pcast'. Then go into music player and select the Genre > Pcast and behold there are all your podcasts! Don't tag them as 'speech' or 'podcast' else they won't show up in the music player. Basically you have to 'trick' it into thinking they're not podcasts! Insane, but it's the sort of thing I've come to expect with this phone, hence why I'm probably going to sell it and get a Nexus 1. |

I used go edit the ID3 tags to Vocal but then got fed up with that step....now I just use the filemanager.
I got a year left on my contract so will see whats out then....at the moment i'm veering towards an Android phone too. |

In your iTunes podcast list, "select all".
Right-click> Get Info It will ask you if you want to change settings for multiple tracks. Say yes (and tick the box, don't ask again). Then use the drop down at the bottom to change (or type in) a new Genre. I use iTunes Agent to sync selected tracks (and podcasts, now not called podcasts) to my i8910. For a long while I have been severly disappointed with my i8910 but after reading thru the forums and identifying a few workarounds I have (kind of) got to a stage where the device does everything I need to; email, browse (using Opera. The orange browser is BAD), watch/listen to media tracks and make phonecalls. Long way to go but since Orange have me sewn up with a 2-year contract I am settling for what I have. Its a great device, O/S is bad, app support is non-existant and now Orange won't even offer tech support on the device. We're on our own... except for each other!!! |
