I've seen a few discussions about this but noone seems to know if this is a fixable problem? It's really starting to P**s me off!! It's only noticeable in low light/dark situations but it shouldn't be doing it! I'm going to Rome in a few months and would love to get some lovely HD videos of the collesum ect all lit up at night, but at the moment the video will be ruined by the white dots!
Is there NOTHING that can be done?!?!?! Here's my personal white dot count and it really is noticeable, there's no getting away from it! (Although it can only be seen when selecting HD on youtube! Which kind of points me to the fact that it may be something that can be fixed if it's only doing it on an HD recording?? Plus it's even more noticeable when it's just watched uncompressed on my computer without it being on youtube, it really sucks!) YouTube - Video050.mp4 |

All cameras actually have these (so people say) but I've never even heard of it before i got the i8910, and they are the worst in low light conditions. They're called hot pixels, as you probably already know, and there is no fix for them unfortunately.
You're not alone, I think all of our i8910 phones do this, just some of them seem to be worse than others. The only thing I can suggest is to check out the custom firmwares. IIRC, the chinese camera files seem to be the best, so check out the work hyperX has done and maybe read what people think is the best rom for video recording. One thing that I've said before and I'll mention again, since I've never heard anyone give a response -- Look at the spec sheet for the chip our phone uses, the OMAP3430: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtb...er+OT+omap3430 It does not even MENTION the term "HD" in the entire spec. Quote:
Sony\Ericson also are coming out with the Kurara, which is basically a clone of the i8910, same specs under the hood. It also uses the OMAP3430, and claims it can do HD 720p video recording. There are no sample videos yet, but this would be the second smart phone in history to make this claim (first being i8910 obviously..). Kind of makes you wonder what exactly samsung (and subsequently Sony\Ericson) did to achieve this so called "HD" video encoding and decoding with the OMAP3430? The decoding is not a problem, I've been able to playback every properly encoded 720p movie I have at the i8910 and there is not even so much as a stutter\audio sync issue\dropped frame anywhere in sight. It's the encoding that seems to be the problem here. It could be TI enabled the functionality with a new SDK and just didn't update their spec sheet...but that doesn't seem logical. Why wouldn't they advertise something like that? And why do NONE of the other phones that use the OMAP3430 (Palm Pre, Motorola Droid, Nokia N900, HTC Qilin, S\E Satio) offer 720p video encoding? And if you actually go through the different chips in the OMAP3 family, HD isn't mentioned until the 3440: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtb...in+OT+omap3440 Any thoughts anyone? I think I will actually send an email to TI's OMAP sales\support team and ask them to clear this up. Last edited by surge; 11-21-2009 at 08:27 PM. |

One of mine does this. I have 2 i8910's and 1 doesn't seem to show them. 1 has about 3 dots that you can see in low light. I took some video at the fair all lit up at night this year and noticed it. It's nothing that is going to make me ditch the phone, but it is something that should NOT be there.

Well, if those are dead or hot pixels you should be able to see them only on your phone display and on every screen/program on your phone only. If it's showing only in HD recording mode and not in any other recording or camera mode or phone screen display, then it can be bad compression algorythm or sensor or even dust behind lenses. God only knows how hard I tried to see if mine shows these white dots and I don't seem to have any major white ones. However, I noticed 3 of them that does not have the surrounding color so that might be the same glitch you all talking about but I trully don't see any white dots on my phone display nor PC 22" or my 42" TV screen. I'm still on official italian XII1 FW.
