Default avi playback problems

Hi im new to the whole smartphone world so please forgive my ignorance if i have missed the blindingly obvious. I have searched for my problem but have found no information about it. Ive downloaded some avi files and transferred them using mass storage mode into video folder. Upon playback through both videoplayer and realplayer i get an error message saying video or audio not supported and then it proceeds to just playing a black blank screen but with sound. Video codec is divx which i thought was supported. Im using latest italian firmware. videos playback fine on pc using vlc. Sny help would be much appreciated. Cheers Dan.

im not sure what you mean. i clicked on view details and they are as follows: format - video/divx size - 154mb time - 04:32. The length of the video would be about 20mins so i find the last entry strange.

He means that you should find and install free program called MediaInfo and post what that program states for your AVI. It's more then useful program that gives all information about video files. It's for PC and not your phone.

Hope this helps.

edit: I googled it for you. Here it is.

from my experience some avi videos work and some don't, there is not much you can do about a video not working, other than converting it

Very true. From what I gather .avi is a container file and not an actual encoding process such as divx or xvid. I believe that divx and xvid are the most popular encoding processes used in .avi files. However I may be wrong on both counts its just from what I gathered on my limited research into the area (which was actually about my PS3 a while back). Anyway I do not have any other .avi files at present to try out. I was wondering whether the .avi file I have with the above information should be able to play back on the i8910 without any converting. If it should then I have a problem with my phone, perhaps with my firmware as I have a few other issues I have posted in another thread.

I second Lobas words. Without complete log none sees the whole 'picture' inside that particular AVI container...
