Default Contacts lost, but phone recognizes caller

I have lost all my contacts when i did the firmware update
My contact list is empty, but when i call a number that used to be listed in my contacts, the phone recognizes the name. Does it mean that my contacts still are somewhere or what? Hope anyone can give me answer PLZZZ

You must have stored those contacts in SIM memory!

By default the phone shows only phone memory contacts, but it recognizes the phone numbers in SIM memory!!!

to show them, go to:

contacts>options>settings>contacts to display. select both SIM as well as phone memory.
