Yeah but Qt does. And so is Flash.
Just out of curiosity, HOW exactly is RTM Windows Mobile distro, more advanced? In which ways is the user-angry UI/shell of Windows mobile (CE5) is more advanced??? (TouchFLO, SPB Shell, etc. are all third party software, and after all it's well.. shell extender, and not so good ones anyway). Not to mention that from usability standpoint "basic" WinMo interface is a total mess.

6.5 (and 6.5.1 if it ever sees the light of day) makes alot of great UI improvements.
The lock screen has alot of improvements, as well as the main standard winmo UI.
The top bar with all the small ass icons on it is now magnifyable, and touch friendly (swipe, scroll, etc).
The titanium theme is awesome (similar to zune HD's UI).

And you're right, the base UI from 6.0 and lower is terrible...however 6.5 is alot better.
Not to mention all the third party UIs available..

Symbian there is handy shell -- and.....that's it.
Even samsung, who spent tons of energy customizing the windows mobile UI to skin every single preference screen and built in app has done nothing of the sort for symbian...except for touchwiz, which is home screen only, and...a huge dissapointment, until we see some functional widgets available (I am sure there will be just why is it taking so long? Widget contest has been over for months..)

Flash and QT are great...but if they can't be integrated into the shell or home screen -- then no matter what app is made, it loses a HUGE piece of functionality on that fact alone.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think SPB Mobile shell \ TouchFlo3d are bad shell extenders?
I think they're both amazing...Symbian has nothing like that.
Especially the new touchflo3d with the animated weather backgrounds -- that seriously knocked the wind out of me when I saw that...
Even when I saw the Hero's weather clock, that amazed me as well...I mean I am easily amused but ...

What Symbian equivilants are there that even come close to those?

Yes but even the Zune HD version is different, faster and more responsive (not to mention newer) then the one used in current builds of WM 6.5. Overall i didn't said it's bad, on a contrary - it's a step into right direction. I said it's still slow. And the Zune HD version has the "depth" idea, ommited in the current version distributed with the mobile phones.

Current "My Media/My app" menu and "3D Task manager" are Qt developed applications. There are numerous community shell extensions/kind-a/ replacements shells/UIs, written in Flash. If you Google here and there, you'll see. The problem with them however, is that they are not commercial projects. SPB Shell and Touch FLO 2D/3D are. commercial projects vs. community projects (of a same type) = commercial always win.
As for their (in my opinion of course) bad points - SPB Shell suffers from over ornated UI. It's so handy it's so usefull, that it is begging to be hard to work with. There are so many screens, which shares similar functionality, basically way to many screens, to get to one menu in so many identical ways. Talking about aesthetics however - i don't have an objections. Same goes (in one degree or another) for Touch FLO 3D, however the main disadvantage for me is, that even on Touch HD it's damn slow. Even with a "vanilla" cooked rom. A colleague of mine has tried using it on a Xperia X1 via cooked ROM - it's even slower. It's better with version 2.6, but still has hickups here and there.

Had a Magic and a Hero to test, for little more then a week. Both are great devices, and i think Android has it's advantages (and disadvantages in some areas). However, when talking about Cookie 1.5 + Sense UI (which is what Hero uses) we meet the same problem as with the touch FLO. Hero uses the same Quallcom CPU which is found in the Touch HD devices, but with more system memory. What i'm trying to say - yes it it beautiful, the clock, the slide controls and even the multi-touch web browser and gallery.. but it's too choppy and slow. Android is really fast, when working with it's own shell (which is also highly customizable and eyecandy even without SenseUI). However, HTC should polish it more, and in other hand Google has some things to be done and others - re-done, imho.

Winmo 7 will take a while.

I tried the LEO versio over a modded ROM from xda on WM6.5. It rocks. The animated wetaher screen with changing backgrounds, stuff at your finger tips.

Allows you to shift between HTC LEO and titanium skin which is great. The top bar is finally eliminated from windows mobiler and replaced by big bottom bar keys and start menu more like the computer desktop. This makes finger usage really easy rather than tapping the top all the time for the start menu.

I really miss the flip clock. I think clock widgets BIG ONES for the HD omnia screen would look great. SOme one should work on it. Hey Super developers, challenge your minds, give the folks what they want. ..... :-)

I think SBP should also make a shell for S60. Seriously, HTC is just a shell over Winmo. but it rocks.

Lets try to persuiade the developers to look into home screen widgets which are big and handy like weather, clock, and stuff. I mean who wants a boring wallpaper still screen.

Yeah I totally agree with you there...those MSM processors are TERRIBLE...android 2.0 looks good though...I am 99% sure my next phone is the droid.
Best of both worlds, OMAP3 + Android 2.0

Yup, only if Android phone do not make the same mistake as HTC touch pro 2 and the "nonsensically" famous iphone by not including a camera flash.

Watch out for upcoming super phones:

1. Xperia 2
2. HTC Touch HD 2

Both are on WM6.5 with HTC having Sense UI which beleive me is wonderful. The desktop contains super icons and weather info. Thats like all information literally at your finger tips. Its so fast. The titanium screen of winmo with bars are super clean and yet so "FINGERLY"
