Firmware i8910ZXIG4 Opinions and Discussion

I've installed the Chinese i8910ZXIG4, so far so good. A new firmware to play with while we all wait for the newest Italian i8910XXIH1 firmware. At the moment I don't see many major changes only improvments. But it is faster than the Italian IG2 and more stable.

Its dated 31/July, so its the most recent firmware to date that is available.

Things I've noticed:

• We now have letters on the dialer, unlike IG2. But still no quick way of bringing up contacts by keying the number that corresponds with the letter / name.
• More free ram. Around 170mb free now just after a reset
• Browser stop bug fixed. (That was also fixed in G3 I think!)
• Faster than i8190XXIG2
• Supports 3 Chinese languages and English only. Will boot up in Chinese but you just change it to English.
• The S60 web browser, is faster and more responsive to touch. Must be a newer/better build Vs IG2.
• Wifi works well. Even with low signal I can connect.
• A few megabytes more of free C drive (36mb aprox phone memory)
• 720p video is smoother. Other users have reported this too.
• Improved battery life over the Italian IG2
• GPS lock is the same as IG2 - Very fast and I can get full strength GPS signal even indoors.

Negatives of this firmware:

• No games installed. I guess they had no Chinese versions. No biggie for me as the games were just trials anyway.

I'll keep updating this thread as I use IG4 more. But also keen to hear from anyone else on IG4 and if anyone wishes me to test for known bugs in IG2 let me know!

Not yet. Of course it boots up in Chinese but its easy to change to english once you find the settings/ flag logo.

I'm still waiting on my manual Mass Memory restore to complete, then I can do a few screen prints.

Hi briggs. Any particular reason why you plumped for this one rather than waiting for the Italian update?
Don't you find it a pain in the arse restoring all the applications all the time? I find that I have to reload Garmin every time which is a right pain!

Its no biggie, once I backed up using the phones back up option and then all the mass storage was back everything is fine. Just had to run the sygic intall .sis again and that was it.


I decided to give it a go since the Italian H* update could be weeks away. I will just flash back to IG2 then update when its out
