Thumbs up Sandisk 16GB micro sdhc class 4 Ultra review and benchmark

Received my Sandisk 16GB class 4 Ultra today from the UK. Purchased for 39.95 pounds, it comes with a plastic case to protect the card and a very small reader. Same as my 8gb mircosd package did.

This is the retail pack that it arrived in.

Formatted to Fat32, 32kb unit allocation gives 14.8 GB free space for music, movies or whatever. The main reason I got this card was for decent write speeds and read speeds for transferring 720p movies.

Using windows vista as a basic gauge I clocked a 14.2 Mb/sec write rate when moving a 700mb movie file. Which is nice.

Reading the file from my memory card to PC I clocked around 18mb/sec read rates which is fast.

Sandra Soft Benchmark of the Sandisk 16GB micro sdhc class 4 Ultra showed the card to be quite fast against USB flash disk drives.

And just to add my Sandisk 8GB Micro SDHC class 4 clocked:

Conclusion
:

My 16GB Sandisk Micro SD Class 4 Ultra is indeed fast and not sacrificing speed for a larger capacity. Against my Sandisk 8gb Micro SDHC the write and reads speeds are very similar. My 16GB has a faster write speed of about 1mb a sec and the 8gb has a slightly faster read rate.

Write Rate: 9/10
Read Rate: 8/10
Capacity: 10/10 (can't wait for those 32Gb micro sd's!!)
Value for money: 8/10

8/10
- Worth the 39.95 pounds paid.

The same frame rate. I did a test and it was 22.769 fps. Not quite 24fps.

Nice, I bought a really cheap 16 GB MicroSD card for $32 USD. Transfer rate is horrendous though. 3MBs write / 4MBs read.

I use it as a dumping ground only. I can record 720p video to it just fine without extra frame loss. Remember that the bitrate is only 7650 Kbits /sec. And when Measuring with bitrate K = 1000 not 1024. So it would seem Samsung's Ceiling for writing is 1MB/s (For recording video).

So as long as your MicroSD card can write at 1MB/s, you can record 720p on the phone just fine.

However, when using the gallery or any other feature, it is dirt slow trying to parse large 8mp pics. In the order of 5 seconds for one picture at best. On top of the sloppy software, it can take quite some time. Which is why I just use the file browser to browse through photos. Loading them after selecting them hurts a little bit, but it's the faster way I can get around on my phone.

I mean you only paid $23 more then me, but I think that $23 is well worth the money for the speed you are getting.

For right now, I am going to abuse this 16GB card until fast 32GB cards are cheap enough.

After having problem's with video playback on my phone using a Sandisk 8GB Class 2, I looked around for a faster card & settled on the Transcend 8GB Class 6. Problem's solved, & at this price a bargain.
